As La Scala celebrates its 4th year, we welcome our winter residents once again. Then, as our “birds” fly north, us year-rounders will have another hurricane season to weather through! After being proved wrong about 2006, the hurricane forecasters are not uniform in their predictions for 2007, but a typical forecast indicates the U.S. can expect above-normal activity, with 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes and 3 intense hurricanes.

HOUSE-KEEPING – Hope you like the reconditioned ‘like new’ pool furniture and the new umbrellas! ☺ We all know how easily sound carries through this building, so please avoid dragging furniture on stone/tile floors and be mindful of owners below you. Several units are still being worked on and may generate noise; after all, this is condo living! ☺ All flattened cardboard boxes less than 36” x 36” must go into the paper recycling bins; only ‘oversize’ flattened boxes should be stacked on the Recycle Room floor ☺ ‘Logo’ towels are still ‘walking’ upstairs into units, or completely disappearing; they should not be taken out of the fitness center or pool area ☺ When you are not in residence at La Scala, please ensure that your guests register at the office, to avoid awkwardness when front desk security inquires as to who they are and in which unit they are staying. Also make them aware of the Rules & Regulations ☺ Take care entering and exiting the parking garage. Drive slowly, looking to right and left and be careful driving around the traffic circle ☺ Children cannot roam the building unsupervised ☺ Raccoons have been trying to get into the trash receptacle by the BBQ grills, so please don’t discard food items there ☺ Look on the La Scala web forum under Residents Information for notes on how to clean your balcony railings ☺ If you don’t know how to turn off the equipment in the movie theater – or if you have any problem – don’t try to trouble-shoot it. Immediately ask the guard to help; leaving the projector on all night may subject you to a $250 bill to replace a burned-out projector bulb. Never touch the rear projector! ☺ As you know, you may visit the Association Office at any time during weekday office hours but the office equipment (computers, fax, photocopy, etc.) and supplies (e.g. stamps) are for Association business only. An exception can be made for an emergency/urgency situation ☺
CLOSING UP YOUR UNIT – It’s in your best interest to let Joseph know when you are leaving for more than a few days and also when you are returning to La Scala, plus it's important for management to know who is in the building - for deliveries, a fire or other alarm-system events, power cuts, impromptu socials, etc. Joseph keeps a daily list of occupied units at the front desk. When leaving for more than a few days, prepare your unit by doing the following. Let down the shutters and adjust the shades/drapes. Turn off the main water valve and flip off the switch for the recirculating pump on the water heater (both are in your mechanical closet). Set the a/c (78º is suggested). Let Joseph or Isabella know if you would like your unit checked from time to time. Advise them when you will be returning, so the water can be turned back on for you and the a/c reduced (74º is suggested). If you are leaving a vehicle here for any length of time, you can leave the car keys with Joseph and he will arrange to have your vehicle started weekly.
IDEAS FOR LA SCALA
SOCIAL EVENTS – A long time ago, Joseph & Isabella volunteered to enhance La
Scala’s social calendar by organizing some fun occasions. At a subsequent Board
Meeting, a couple of Members suggested that there should be a Social Committee
instead. At a recent Board Meeting however, it was generally acknowledged that
Joseph & Isabella should take the ball on this one since no Members came forward
to volunteer; so unless a few dedicated Members will now step forward to form a
Social/Entertainment Committee, we should let Joseph & Isabella get started.
Ideas include Sunday Brunch in the Social Room, a poolside “Royal Scoop”
Ice-Cream Party, Texas Hold’em Tournament, Naples Princess Cruise and…..
suggestions?
