LA SCALA NEWS
1st Quarter 2006 from Andrew Fentiman (603)
Welcome, seasonal residents! If you’ve been away from Bonita for a while, you will notice ‘the new’ (Coconut Point mall taking shape) as well as ‘the old’ (U.S. 41 still under construction). In The Colony, 525 home sales have actually closed to date and WCI expects a total of 960 homes to be closed by the end of 2006. With build-out estimated at around 1,250 front doors, this means that 2006 should see The Colony pass the halfway point.
QUICK NEWS – Welcome to new owners Steven Abbey (1901), John & Maria Marciano (802), Jonathan & Lois Adams (1503) and Kenneth & Connie Dixon (803) ☼ 19 La Scala units remain in decorator-ready condition (concrete floors) ☼ The wonderful Bay Club Sunday breakfasts end on April 30th (no Easter Sunday breakfast), so don’t miss out ☼ Unlike in years past, the Golf Club will not be welcoming non-members for dining during this May through October off-season ☼ The cell tower in The Colony should be coming down fairly soon ☼ Avoid the seasonal heavy traffic on U.S. 41 by trying close-by restaurants like Chops, La Fontanella, Tanglewood (Hyatt), Painted Table (formerly Mango’s), Blue Moon Café, Sanibel Steakhouse, Bella Vita and Tokyo Bay (I have a restaurant list). The new Coconut Point mall will feature a Ruth Chris Steakhouse ☼
HOUSE-KEEPING – Did you get your new La Scala Directory? If not, collect one from Isabella in the office ☺ The La Scala Web Forum is up and running and all Association Members (“unit owners of record”) should have received an e-mail invitation to log on from the System Administrator, Jeff Manning. Contact Jeff if you need an extra login for another co-owner of your unit. And please participate, so that your opinions are represented! If you are planning a La Scala event, e-mail Jeff at jrmanning@aol.com so he can post it in the Upcoming Events section of the web forum ☺ The first monthly Residents Meeting will be held in the library at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday April 12th and thereafter on the 3rd Wednesday of the month (see web forum for details) ☺ The A.E.D. (defibrillator) has been moved from the Association Office to the front desk and next to it is a list of those trained to use it ☺ Note that the June 7th Board Meeting has been changed to June 14th ☺ One of the La Scala shopping carts went missing – have you seen it? ☺ Call Joseph or Isabella before you arrive so your water can be turned on and anything else needed can also be arranged in advance ☺ All workers need to be signed in at the desk and properly documented (license, insurance and workers comp.). If you take undocumented workers up to your unit, you put the Association (and therefore, all of us) at liability risk ☺ If you are having a pest problem in your unit, contact Isabella because the pest control company is on contract ☺ Looks like our Royal palms survived Wilma as they are putting out new shoots ☺ We had Charlie in 2004 and Wilma in 2005 but what will the 2006 hurricane season bring? We survived two hurricanes; let’s hope we can also survive the insurance increases!
ENGINEERING REPORT – Although W.J. Johnson & Associates have completed most of their work, we are still awaiting the project manuals from WCI before the results of the engineering survey can be analyzed. The three-year warranty on the building from WCI expires in July 2006 and we expect to have everything finalized before then.
Looking forward to seeing you at the April 19th End-of-Season Farewell Lobster Bake, catered by Russell’s Clambake. Be sure to R.S.V.P. soonest to Isabella. Please start using the new La Scala Web Forum. Also, let me know if you have any newsworthy ‘newsletter’ items that other owners might find interesting. Cell: (239) 405-3455. E-mail: acfentiman@comcast.net. Enjoy the summer! ANDREW
