LA SCALA NEWS

2nd Quarter 2004 from Andrew Fentiman, Residence 603

As your Non-Developer Unit Owner Board Member (whew!), I would like to thank those who voted for me. I want to reassure everyone that I will do my best to prove worthy of your trust. I believe that all three candidates were well-suited for the task and after all, we each have a common goal to work towards: preparing for La Scala’s turnover from WCI to ourselves.

I recently met with Joseph and Isabella to go over the latest budget as well as examining the building’s service and maintenance contracts so that we can ensure we get the best service from the best suppliers at the best prices. Joseph and Isabella have done a thorough and exacting job of obtaining the best quotations and terms. Those of you who have got to know Joseph and Isabella will already understand how much time, effort and expertise they put into managing La Scala. Since Jackie and I moved in permanently last November, we have got to know them both well and we feel extremely lucky to have such tireless and capable resident managers looking after the interests of all unit owners at La Scala.

QUICK NEWS: This month (June), The Colony Country Club opens its doors to non-member Colony residents; can’t wait to try the spa services ☼ The flower beds at the La Scala entrance gate have just been replanted with Summer flowers ☼ Joseph volunteered for and won a part ♫ in the Sugden Community Theater production of Guys ‘n Dolls ☼ Our driveway will be closed and under repair from June 14th through July 1st ☼ Cracked floor tiles were recently replaced in a passenger elevator ☼ One of the gas barbecues is being replaced ☼ Deer and bald eagles are being sighted from residents’ terraces ☼ Early June brush fires in Estero have now been contained ☼ WCI are breaking ground for the Navona tower between the Coconut Gate and Sorrento ☼ WCI’s Castella opens for sales on June 10th (three mid-rises sharing a million-dollar pool, just north of Palermo) ☼ WCI’s Concierge Service is now available ☼ In residence currently are Rick & Jane Priory (503), Andrew & Jackie Fentiman (603), Paul & Peggy Hoefler (804), Harry & Eleanor Lunden (1503) ☼

Everybody knows that it is the residents who transform a ‘building’ into a ‘community’. Whilst everyone should have the privacy they need, I think many of us appreciate the chance to interact with our fellow owners. With this in mind, Isabella is planning a La Scala Resident Directory and so please complete the attached form as soon as possible and return it to me. Thank you.

Having cause to use both passenger elevators one evening, I decided to press all the floor buttons and noticed that more and more residences are being completed. Each finished private elevator foyer is magnificent and unique, a testament to the individuality of the owner.

Jackie and I have been living here for seven months now and the magic of La Scala has not waned a bit. I think of La Scala as the grandeur and privacy of estate-home living combined with the amenities of a world-class resort. Strolling the impressive hallways the other day, a visitor exclaimed “This is a marbled palace!” It truly is. Out-of-towners, please come back to La Scala soon: it’s just not fair for us few to have all of the wonderful facilities to ourselves!

For your interest, I plan to send a quarterly newsletter to each unit owner at my own expense. I enjoy writing and I hope the information will be informative and enjoyable. If you know of something that other owners might want to be aware of, do let me know and I can perhaps include it. In closing, if you have concerns, comments or questions about La Scala, I am only a phonecall (cell: 239/405-3455) or e-mail (acfentiman@comcast.net) away. Enjoy the summer, ANDREW
