LA SCALA NEWS
4th Quarter 2006 from Andrew Fentiman (603)
Hurricane season is now over and we came through unscathed. Our winter residents are coming back in town and The Colony is ready for the holiday season. The trunks of the palms in the community’s traffic circles are encircled with strings of lights and at La Scala, the holiday decorations look suitably festive, the centerpiece being our magnificent decorated tree which towers in the Grand Salon. Hope you like this photo, which I took from my plane while circling La Scala!
QUICK NEWS - Welcome to new owners Tony and Georgie Fernandes (1801), Greg and Lee MacNeil (1601) and Mark Staples (302) ☼ With the sale of 1601, WCI no longer owns any units at La Scala ☼ 14 La Scala units remain in decorator-ready condition (concrete floors) ☼ The November tree-lighting party was a lively evening and became even more so after Steve & Nancy Calabrese kindly invited the stragglers up to their lovely unit to party on some more! ☼ Numerous stores and restaurants are open at the magnificent Coconut Point Town Center – and there’s much more to come! ☼ Park benches have been added along walkways in The Colony ☼ The tall radio tower in The Colony has now been taken down ☼ Our annual Welcome Back party is on January 17, with delicious appetizers, carved turkey & pork, poached salmon, pasta station, salad, bread, desserts and full bar. Please R.S.V.P. to Isabella soonest ☼ Our own Joseph Loiacono stars as Uncle Jeff in the musical Mame, running from February 28th through March 31st, 2007, at the Sugden Community Theatre off Fifth Avenue South in Naples ☼ New Pelican Landing/Colony resident directories are now available at the PLCA front desk at 24501 Walden Center Drive (239/947-5977) ☼
HOUSE-KEEPING - ‘Logo’
towels are disappearing and they are expensive to replace. Please be sure to put
dirty towels in the appropriate hamper and not take them to your unit ☺ Kindly
remember that pool/spa hours are daylight only, please ☺ Items left in the back
hallway of your unit contravene the fire code so please never leave items out
there because they will be removed by the management ☺ Recycling pick-up is a
privilege in the sense that if we don’t comply with the rules, the recyclers may
decline to pick up from La Scala. The driver checks the bins and he has found
food scraps, old clothing and other non-recyclable items. Glass, cans and
plastic items should be put straight into the appropriate bin, not dumped into
the bin inside a plastic bag ☺ Now that WCI/Kraft Construction have finished the
remedial work on the Social Room, it is back to normal and available to
residents again ☺ Seems like an obvious one, but if you are ill, please be
considerate about using (or even avoiding) the La Scala common areas and
facilities ☺ Kindly don’t let children roam the building unsupervised,
especially the Fitness Center and swimming pool/spa; think of the danger and
liability! ☺
BAY CLUB EVENTS - Breakfast at the Bay Club is back, re-starting after the holidays on January 7th, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by hot & cold lunch items served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. it is Martinis & Motown (3rd Floor). Fridays nights from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. is Bay Nights with Bill Jollie (3rd Floor). The Bay Club & Country Club both have New Year’s Eve dinner dances as well as Valentine’s dinner dances. Call Tammi Reyes on (239) 390-4709 for event reservations. Bay Club: (239) 992-2100. Country Club: (239) 390-4709.
NEW PET RULES - The results of the Member vote were counted at the mid-December meeting and the pet rules amendment passed with 55 votes ‘for’ and 4 votes ‘against’. With 59 out of 64 unit owners voting, the turnout was impressive. As soon as the new rules are recorded, they will go into effect, probably before the end of 2006. Look for an announcement on the La Scala web forum.
KEY ACCESS – When you closed on the purchase of your unit, you should have been given your unit door key and also a second key. Although it may not have been explained to you at the closing table, this second key is for access to the La Scala common areas that remain locked for security reasons; the catering kitchen next to the Social Room, the restrooms in the swimming pool area, the lower parking garage door to the outside pet walk area, etc. If you have mislaid your second key, please see Isabella in the office.
ANNUAL MEMBERS MEETING - Due to scheduling conflicts, the Annual Members Meeting has been re-scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28th, 2007.
EVEN MORE RESTAURANTS - More local restaurants are popping up (let me know if you want me to e-mail you a copy of my restaurant list), especially with Coconut Point Town Center coming on stream. Following my suggestions in the last newsletter, here are some more eateries. Coconut Point Town Center: Ruth Chris’ Steak House (239/948-5892), Grape (239/992-5040), California Pizza Kitchen (239/498-7667), Ted’s Montana Grill (239/947-9318), Shane’s Rib Shack (239/495-7609), Panera Bakery Café (239/498-4472) and Starbucks (239/390-0394) are already open. Naples: Aura in the Naples Grande Resort (formerly The Registry) is a very contemporary restaurant. The chef’s table/tasting bar looks like fun. They have a nice bar and dancing on Fridays. Fred Hirschovits recommends Le Bistro at 842 Neapolitan Way off of Tamiami Trail North (239/434-7061) and also Randy’s Fish Market at 10395 Tamiami Trail North in North Naples (239/593-5555). Captiva: If you don’t mind the long drive back in the dark, beach cocktails with live music at sunset at the Mucky Duck is a Captiva tradition. Parking can be tricky so get there an hour before sunset. When the sun goes down, try dinner at the restaurant (239/472-3434).
