LA SCALA POLICY & STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR GOLF CARTS

PURPOSE: Policy for assigned golf cart parking and safe use and operation on La Scala property.

SCOPE: Any person operating a golf cart on La Scala property is deemed, by doing so, to have the necessary knowledge, training and skill to operate the vehicle safely, and they shall be fully accountable for their actions and any consequences. No person shall drive a golf cart on La Scala property without the owner’s permission and possession of a valid driver’s license.

SAFETY PROCEDURES: Golf carts shall be operated in compliance with the common “rules of the road” and courtesy and care shall be shown for the safety and consideration of others. Pedestrians and cyclists shall be afforded the right of way at all times. All body parts (feet, legs, arms, head) must remain inside the vehicle while it is in motion. Operators of golf carts which are not equipped with turn indicators shall use appropriate hand signals. When the vehicle is left unattended, turn the key to the “off” position. Remove the key and lock the brake.

CONDITION OF VEHICLE: Golf carts shall be maintained in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition. Golf carts operated between dusk and dawn shall have working headlights and rear lights.

INSURANCE: Golf carts shall be fully insured to cover any liability, accident, injury, damage, fire, flood, theft or other casualty.

PARKING: Each golf cart shall only be parked in its assigned parking space and wholly inside the marked white perimeter lines of the space. No items shall be left on the floor of the garage. The Association reserves the right to terminate a lease and re-assign a parking space if an assigned space is left vacant for 30 days without a golf cart being parked there. Battery chargers must be plugged directly into a ground fault interrupter (GFI) electrical receptacle; the use of unauthorized extension cords is illegal, as per the State Fire Marshall’s regulations.

LEASE: Designated golf cart parking spaces are located in the Common Elements, assigned by the Association with a renewable annual lease. If a unit is sold, the unit owner’s golf cart parking space reverts back to the Association and the value of any unused lease term will be pro-rated and refunded to the unit owner. The annual lease amount is $365 and is payable in advance.
